Mopar never sold the synchro sliders separately, sliders only came as an assembly with synchronizer sets, and they were expensive. Then after Mopar discontinued the synchronizer sets, there were no more new sliders available. This left Neon SRT-4 owners with one less critical component for repairing the T-850 transmission. We spent considerable time developing, manufacturing, and testing a high-quality replacement to help keep these cars on the road.
After producing our prototypes, we installed and tested them in our own Neon SRT-4. We immediately noticed smoother and more positive engagement into gear, giving us the confidence that these were ready for production.
If your transmission is becoming difficult to shift, feels notchy when engaging a gear, or grinds during shifts, a worn or damaged synchro slider may be part of the problem. Over time, the engagement teeth can wear, making it harder for the transmission to smoothly lock the selected gear to the shaft.
Producing these synchro sliders required a substantial investment and a large production run, but we felt it was important to ensure this critical transmission component remained available for the Neon SRT-4 community. Our goal is simple: to help keep these cars on the road and shifting like they should.
Manufactured to OEM specifications for proper fit and function, these synchro sliders are designed as a direct replacement with no modifications required.
These are sold individually. One slider is needed for each synchro assembly. IE:
1/2 gear synchro
3/4 gear synchro
5/R gear synchro
So if you have a problem with third gear, you'd order one slider for the 3/4 gear synchro assembly. Or if you are refreshing the transmission and want all new sliders, then you'd get three units for the entire 1/2/3/4/5/R gears.
Fits:
-
2003–2005 Dodge Neon SRT-4
What does a synchro slider do?
A synchro slider is responsible for locking the selected gear to the transmission shaft after the synchronizer has matched the gear speeds. Without it, the transmission cannot smoothly engage the selected gear.
A simple analogy:
Imagine two merry-go-rounds spinning at different speeds. If you tried to connect them together instantly, they would crash into each other—that's gear grinding. The synchronizer first brings both to the same speed, then the synchro slider locks them together for a smooth gear change.
Common symptoms of a worn synchro slider
- Grinding while shifting
- Difficulty engaging a specific gear
- Excessive resistance when shifting
- Transmission popping out of gear
- Rounded or chipped engagement teeth
-
Hard or notchy shifting, especially during aggressive driving
While worn synchronizer rings are often blamed for shifting problems, the synchro slider itself is also a common wear item. As the engagement teeth become rounded over time, smooth gear engagement becomes increasingly difficult.
