The Neon SRT-4 utilizes a pair of equal-length axles along with an intermediate shaft on the passenger side. This intermediate shaft plays a critical role in transferring power from the transmission to the passenger-side axle, and is supported by a bearing housing mounted directly to the engine.
In recent years, Mopar discontinued the OEM intermediate shaft, leaving Neon SRT-4 owners with limited options—primarily sourcing used, aging components of unknown condition and reliability.
At Modern Performance, we are committed to supporting the Neon SRT-4 community and keeping these cars on the road. Recognizing the need for a dependable, high-quality replacement, we set out to develop a brand-new intermediate shaft solution that meets—and exceeds—the standards of the original part.
Our intermediate shaft is manufactured from heat-treated chromium alloy steel, selected specifically for its excellent strength, wear resistance, and long-term durability under demanding conditions. Each shaft is produced with careful attention to material quality and machining precision to ensure consistent performance and reliability.
To complement the shaft, we designed an all-new bearing housing machined from billet aluminum. This housing is powder coated for corrosion resistance and is paired with a premium-grade bearing to provide proper support, smooth operation, and extended service life.
We're also using a high-quality bearing with the same inner diameter as the OEM unit, but with a 15% larger outer diameter for increased load capacity, improved durability, and extended service life. The larger bearing design also reduces deflection and offers greater resistance to shock loads.
To complete the package, we include high-quality ARP studs, along with extra-thick washers and tall flanged nuts, ensuring a secure and stable installation of the bearing housing to the engine.
Lastly, to save you from the hassle of having to find a press to install the intermediate shaft bearing housing on the intermediate shaft, we have pressed the bearing onto the shaft for you, to make installation easier and faster.
