The Neon SRT-4 utilizes a pair of equal-length axles along with an intermediate shaft on the passenger side. This intermediate shaft plays a critical role in transferring power from the transmission to the passenger-side axle and is supported by a bearing housing mounted directly to the engine.
In recent years, Mopar discontinued the OEM intermediate shaft, leaving Neon SRT-4 owners with limited options—primarily used, aging components of unknown condition and reliability.
At Modern Performance, our goal was to develop a dependable, high-quality replacement for the discontinued OEM intermediate shaft and help keep street-driven Neon SRT-4s on the road. This shaft was designed as an aftermarket replacement for street-driven vehicles making up to approximately 400 horsepower. It was not designed or intended to be a high-horsepower drag racing axle or competition drivetrain component.
Our intermediate shaft is manufactured from heat-treated chromium alloy steel, selected for its combination of strength, wear resistance, and long-term durability in a street-driven application. Each shaft is manufactured with careful attention to material quality, dimensional accuracy, and machining precision.
To complement the shaft, we designed an all-new bearing housing machined from billet aluminum. The housing is powder coated for corrosion resistance and paired with a premium-grade bearing to provide proper shaft support, smooth operation, and long service life.
We use a high-quality bearing with the same inner diameter as the OEM bearing, but with a 15% larger outer diameter. The larger bearing provides increased load capacity, improved durability, reduced deflection, and additional support compared with the original-size bearing.
To complete the package, we include high-quality ARP studs along with extra-thick washers and tall flanged nuts, providing a secure and stable mounting of the bearing housing to the engine.
We also press the bearing and bearing housing onto the intermediate shaft before shipment, eliminating the need for you to locate a press or machine shop and making installation easier and faster.
A new C-clip and O-ring are also included.
