Syked ECU, 1996 Neon 2.0L SOHC / DOHC

Model Number: 221296-96

Note: This ECU is designed for Neons equipped with a manual transmission. Neons equipped with an automatic transmission can use this ECU as well, however the torque lockup converter will not work, and your gas mileage will decrease slightly.

Years ago, the Mopar PCM was the only option for 95-99 Neon owners who wanted to increase their Neon's performance. It was then discontinued by Mopar around 2010.

Fast forward a few years, and there has been no option for Neon owners, but Kevin at Syked has released a flash for ECUs that has a similar increase in power and torque compared to the old Mopar PCM.

These are OEM ECUs that have been flashed, and have the following benefits:

  • Gain 7-10 hp peak at the wheels, or even more if your car is highly modified.
  • Increased rev limiter to 7800 RPM
  • Improved fuel maps that take advantage of 93 octane gas with more timing.
  • Improved throttle response, more horsepower and torque.
  • No Purge System Monitoring
  • No EGR Valve Monitoring
  • No Speed Limiter

Designed for off road use only

This item is purchased outright. You do not need to return your ECU.

Note: This ECU can also be used with 2.4L Swapped Neons, but must be repinned to do so.

As of 5/1/14 there is not a 1995 Neon Syked ECU available.
  • Jesse
Any word if Syked is going to make one for the early 1995?
    1 Answer
    • customer service rep

As of 7/8/14 there is not a 1995 Neon pcm available from Syked.
  • James
Do these computers REQUIRE the use of 93 octane, or would I be able to get by with 91 or 87? I only have ready access to 91 and 87
    1 Answer
    • customer service rep

93 octane is best, but you can get by with 91 octane, you'll have less timing and power.
  • Justin
with the 96 skyed ecu if I do the 2.4 swap will I need to switch pins or just plug the harness straight in?
    1 Answer
    • customer service rep

The only pcms that are plug and play for the 2.4 are the ones labeled as 2.4 swap. All other first gen pcms are designed for the 2.0 and will require rep inning or moving of the cam sensor, ignition and injectors. For those of you considering doing a 2.4 swap, read more about it at neons.org in the engine swap section.

How much horsepower is generally expected to increase and when i get it do i just plug it in and thats it, nothing else?
    1 Answer
    • Customer Service Rep

On a stock motor, you'd gain about 5-6 hp. If you have a better air intake, headers, exhaust, etc, you'd gain over 10 wheel horsepower.

Will this ECU take advantage of having everything but the block upgraded?
    1 Answer
    • Customer Service Rep

This pcm will work fine with a bone stock motor, but it will work very well with a modified engine and bolt on parts. The only exception is turbo use, this pcm is not designed to work with an aftermarket turbo due to its advanced timing not working well with boost.
  • Dan m
Does this pcm monitor catylist efficiency
    1 Answer
    • Customer Service Rep

This pcm does not monitor the catalyst downstream oxygen sensor. This means you can remove the catalytic convertor for race use and it will not trip the check engine light.

Will this ecu work with 4-8psi turbo?
    1 Answer
    • Customer Service Rep

We would highly advise against it. Its not good to run a pcm that advances timing with a turbocharger. Advanced timing plus higher cylinder temperatures usually ends up with detonation, which is not good.
  • J. Abraham Peters
Would this function as it should with a small supercharger? I know a turbo is out of the question, i'm just curious if it's due to the way it gains boost.
    1 Answer
    • Customer Service Rep

Turbo, Supercharger, it does not matter, any sort of forced induction with this pcm that has advanced timing is not a good idea. If you have forced induction, stick to your stock pcm, and make more power not with a pcm, but with better tuning, better intake, exhaust, etc.

Can you get the 96 with the Rev limiter to 8000 or is it only 97-99.
    1 Answer
    • Customer Service Rep

Currently we only offer a 7800 rpm rev limiter for the 96 Neon computer. If someday we offer more options, there will be a pull down menu and listing of the different options.

Can these be tuned to make the car's exhaust pops like the srt4s?
    1 Answer
    • Customer Service Rep

No, not possible. We do not offer any further tuning or options, what you see on this page is what's available.
  • Dennis
Can the rev limiter be set to 8100 on these computers. Thanks
    1 Answer
    • Customer Service Rep

No, as of 10/16/18 we only offer a 7800 rpm limiter.

Can I run 110 octane with this ecu
    1 Answer
    • Customer Service Rep

Yes, however the benefit will be limited. This pcm advances the timing, but to run well on 93 octane. Running a higher octane will reduce the chances of any detonation, which may be beneficial for hardcore racing when the engine is hot and constantly being beaten on. But for street use, there is no benefit.

What's the difference between the 96 and the 97 ecm
    1 Answer
    • Customer Service Rep

They look the same, and have the same two plug connectors. However, the 1996 has a fan relay on the frame rail to control the cooling fans, whereas the 1997-1999 has the relay built in to control the cooling fans.
