All of you who own a manual Dodge Dart know the shifter has the following problems:

  • The knob is positioned too far forward, and you have to reach to get to all forward gears.
  • The throw feels too long between gears.

We've fixed these problems with the new MPx Short Throw Shifter!

  • 1) We've positioned the knob closer to the driver for better ergonomics and feel.
  • 2) We've reduced the throw between gears by 25%.
  • 3) We've reduced the height of the shifter to make it not feel so tall
  • 4)This retains the stock shift knob, and reverse lockout feature.

Notice: We now offer the MPx shifter base bushings as an accessory, you dont have to buy these, but if you are installing this short shifter its the perfect time to install the base bushings.

      We provide photo installation instructions on how to install this piece. Its not difficult to do, just takes time and patience! You do NOT need a lift to install this, everything is done inside the car.

    HOW EASY IS THIS TO INSTALL

      It does not require any special tools to install. We provide instructions with photos, and the way we recommend installing it takes about 1.5- 2 hours to install. However, some customers have been able to remove and replace the shifter with a lot less work, and replaced it in about 20 minutes. So, it depends on your skill level!

    Does this come with the reverse cable or will it need to be purchased separately

      What you see in the photo is exactly what you get. The shifter stalk, and installation grease is whats being sold here. There is no reverse cable, you should reuse yours. If you need a replacement reverse cable you'd need to source that yourself separately.

      You can reuse your factory knob, or purchase the MPx shift knob as a direct replacement. In most cases the factory knob is destroyed when being removed, so we highly recommend you get the MPx knob which can be removed and installed without it being destroyed.

    How big is the difference between the stock and short throw shifters? It doesn't really look that much lower and I'm wondering if it would make more sense to simply cut and weld my stock shifter to make it shorter.

      The MPx shifter reduces the height and reduces the throw compared to stock. You most definitely would not want to cut your shifter as that would increase the effort needed to change gears and would do nothing to reduce the throw.

    Is there special/different instructions for a Mopar 13? The shifter ball is different.

      Even though the shifter ball is different on the Mopar 13 Dart, the shifter will be the same, so you can transfer over the shift knob onto this short shifter.

    Is there any way one could be made without the angle correction toward the driver? I really like this shifter (and all the parts you make, I've been really impressed), I just don't like it being off center towards the driver.

      We make these in large batches, and are currently only offering this one style. So, sadly we cant offer a oem style position at this time.

      The MPx shifter moves the shifter closer to the driver, so there is LESS of a problem with you hitting the climate control buttons than before.

      The two best fitting knobs for this shifter are the OEM one, and the MPx direct replacement knob. Sure , other aftermarket knobs could fit but we cant guarantee the fit, or if they wont come loose over time.

    Does this come with the same thread pattern as factory? Or does it have a different pattern that is more common with aftermarket shifters?

      This shifter has the exact same threading on the rod end as factory. This allows you to use your OEM knob, of the MPx shift knob.
