Around 2013, Chrysler created a concept called the Dodge Dart GTS. It was a Dodge Dart that was lowered, had some cool aero stuff including a viper style inspired carbon fiber hood.
Well, unfortunately for Dart enthusiasts this car was never built.
Fast forward to 2014, and Modern Performance decided to take the initiative to create a GTS style hood for all the Dart owners! This hood is made with a 3k carbon fiber twill, has fiberglass underside for maximum strength and uses the factory latch and hinges. The scoop is open and allows air in just like a viper style hood.
Quick notes on this product:
Carbon fiber is a hand laid product, and because of that, all hoods can have minor imperfections. These can be very small and not normally noticed things like a slight twist in the cf weave, very small dimples, etc. Most people would never notice this, but if you are searching for imperfections and looking very closely you might see some.
Installing the hood
This hood is designed to install with the factory hinges, and use the factory latch. Please note that you will need to transfer your oem latch from your factory hood to this hood. This is very easy to do, as the latch is held in place with two bolts.
NOTE: The factory hood has a rubber weatherstripping on the bottom of the hood to seal to the body of the car. The GTS tribute hood does not have the oem weatherstripping on it, but you could transfer your oem one to this hood if you wish. You would either need to glue the weatherstripping to the bottom of the GTS hood, or drill holes and then use the oem clips to secure the molding to the GTS hood.
If you want to buy new weatherstripping and clips, here is the Mopar part number:
Mopar Part Number 68082830AE.
Also, windshield washer squirter holes are cut so you can transfer your existing squirters and lines. Please keep in mind when installing a hood it can take a good amount of time to get it to be perfectly lined up, to install the washer squirters, washer lines, etc.
Caring for your hood
The more time your hood is exposed to UV, the more likely it can have a haze on the clear coat, or the clear coat even turn brown. So, keep a good coat of wax on the hood to protect it from uv rays, and every few years you should have a professional body shop sand and re-clear coat the hood to keep it looking fantastic and very glossy.
