Modern Performance has put together this kit for 03-05 Neon SRT-4 owners and 2.4L Swapped 95-99 Neon owners that are looking for something better than stock, or just want to freshen up their motor for many more miles of trouble free driving.

We offer a choice of 8.0:1 (Turbo), 8.5:1 (Turbo), 10.5:1 (N/A), or 12.5:1 (N/A) compression pistons. All four compressions are available in either standard size or 0.020 overbore, and may be available in 0.040 overbore by special order.

All of the components in this kit are high quality, and we use nothing but OEM Mopar bearings, gaskets and seals.

With this kit you will save a significant amount of money as a packaged deal, and you'll also save yourself the trouble of having to buy components from many different places. One kit from Modern Performance is all you need!

The power capacity of this kit with the Manley rods is 600+ HP. If you need more power holding capacity we recommend the Crower rods for a 750+ HP capacity (separate listing).

  • Your Choice of JE Pistons & Rings
  • Eagle Forged Connecting Rods
  • Mopar Rod Bearings
  • Clevite Main Bearings
  • Mopar Front & Rear Main Seals
  • Mopar Oil Pan Gasket
  • Mopar Front Cover Oil Inlet Seal
  • Mopar Oil Pick Up Tube Seal
  • Mopar Oil Cooler Gasket
  • Mopar Oil Pump

Note: We get people asking us all the time if they can make changes to this kit, ie, drop this item, swap this item out for this item, etc. The short answer is, yes we can do it, but our website listing cannot be modified for every crazy combination of items you want to customize. Say for example you do not want the Manley Rods but instead want Crower rods. Look at the price difference between the two items in our cart, and that is roughly what youd pay extra to get the Crower rods instead of Manley with this kit. If you do not want an item, say the Mopar Oil pump, then figure this kit would be whatever the price of the oil pump is, less in price. If you want to make changes, there is no need to email or call us beforehand, just place the order with the standard kit the way you want it, and then at checkout make a comment on what you would like to add/remove.

I'm assuming the oil pump is the high-volume one used on the turbo'd engines? Will the pump bolt on an earlier 2.4 block, and only require a new oil pan/pick-up tube?
    1 Answer
    • customer service rep

This kit is supplied with the SRT4 OEM Mopar oil pump. Correct if you use this on a non turbo early block you should also get the srt4 oil pickup, oil pan, oil filter adapter to retrofit over to the SRT4 spec.

I have the S256 setup I'm a little confused would I be better off doing the over bore or the standard I'm looking to do the crane 16 cams with race gas tune in the future which is better for me the standard or the over bore
    1 Answer
    • customer service rep

Standard or overbore piston size, is determined by your machine shop. The machine shop will inspect the bore to determine if your cylinder bores are in good shape with no damage. If there is any wear or scratches, in most cases the block will be bored, and you'll need larger pistons. So, take your block to a machine shop, after they inspect they will tell you what size pistons you can use, and then order from us!

So this kit is everything I need to rebuild and hold 600hp? Also does this kit come with je pistons ?
    1 Answer
    • Brady

You have the option to choose between eagle rods or crower rods. Eagle rods support 600+hp and crower rods are for 750+hp. And yes it comes with JE pistons.
  • Dan
If I purchase this can I get different sized bearings and Pistons?
    1 Answer
    • Customer Service Rep

Sure, please call us to discuss.
  • Brady
Will I gain horsepower by adding this kit? If so, how much?
    1 Answer
    • Customer Service Rep

If your motor is in perfect shape and you rebuild it with this kit, there will not be much gained. If your rings are shot and bearings are in poor shape, no doubt you'll gain some good power back. If you choose the 8.5:1 pistons you'll have a faster spool up over the factory 8.0:1 compression as well.

Will this kit work with my stock head to get by ?
    1 Answer
    • Customer Service Rep

Yes of course. Stock cylinder head, cnc ported cylinder head, it will work great with whatever head you have.
  • Dustin
Is this kit for stock setup or for more power? I want to rebuild top end first then go to bottom end. Gonna push for 500 plus hp!
    1 Answer
    • Customer Service Rep

This kit, with its forged pistons and rods will easily handle upwards of 700+ horsepower as long as your car is tuned correctly.
  • Edwin
Is there anything that the engine kits doesn't come with that we need for it. For example: timing belt or water pump
    1 Answer
    • Customer Service Rep

Because this is a bottom end rebuild kit, it does not have timing components like water pump, timing belt, etc. This is a kit that has everything for a typical bottom end rebuild kit. If you want timing components and water pumps those are sold separately on our site.

does the 8.5:1 compression ratio make it a interference type motor or will it remain a non interference?
    1 Answer
    • Customer Service Rep

This motor is a low compression motor. That means there is a lot of clearance between the valves and the pistons. If you change the factory pistons which are 8.0:1 to 8.5:1 compression pistons this motor will still have a lot of clearance. The motor will still be a non interference motor, and it wont be an issue unless you do something very high like 10.00:1 or higher compression.
  • mark Sanchez
if I choose 8;5;1 compression will I have to choose a bore size or can I just use standard. I am going to use on stock used block. also what is the differences in .20 and .40 over bores.
    1 Answer
    • Customer Service Rep

Once you select the compression, you will see the available bore sizes. If your machine shop or mechanic has checked the bore and says you can use standard bore size, then you standard. If there is any damage or the machine shop just wants to cut the bore to make sure its true, use the .20 overbore. If you have previously cut the bore to .20 and need larger, or if you have heavy damage with a stock bore and need to cut it to .40 bore, then you can use the .40 overbore pistons.
