Dart 2.0L / 2.4L owners! If you want your Dart to have much better throttle response you need to read further. The factory flywheel weighs a solid 26 lbs, and the Clutch Masters lightweight flywheel weighs 12 lbs. That's a 14 lb savings of rotating mass weight.

At first you might think to yourself, 14 lbs doesn't sound like much, but that's massive. Rotating mass pertains to the items that spin from the engines power. Crankshaft, pistons, rods, brake rotors, axles, wheels, tires are all rotating mass. if you put 10 lbs of weight in your trunk it wont make any difference at all. But if you put 10 lbs of weight on the rotating mass of the engine you'll feel it immediately.

Why did Dodge make a car with such a heavy flywheel? Why don't all cars have a 10 lb flywheel?
Great question. The flywheel serves two purposes. 1) It smooths the impulses from the engine, and 2) It creates a consistent speed for the engine. With a 26 lb flywheel you'll have a smooth idle, but also sluggish acceleration due to the weight.

Solution
The lightweight flywheel will allow for much faster acceleration, and better throttle response. Power across the board is improved and low rpm (800-3000 rpm) is significantly improved.

This flywheel will make your Dart have a idle that is not smooth anymore. You'll feel more of the engine's pulses. Its not terrible in our opinion, but you wont even care after you drive your Dart and notice the awesome acceleration after the install.

The OEM dual mass flywheel is designed to be supremely quiet, and because of its mechanical clutch type engagement, it can allow for a smoother engagement of the clutch, but its very heavy and it slows the operation of the engine/car. Because of the mechanical engagement of the flywheel, it can fail over time. This lightweight flywheel on the other hand is a solid disc, with no moving parts so it cannot fail like a dual mass. The lightweight flywheel on the other hand, will increase performance and rpm response noticeably, and when driving you will not notice any additional noise, but with the clutch disengaged at idle it will be loud. If you depress the clutch, noise will be minimal.

This flywheel works with the stock clutch as well as the Clutch Masters line of clutches for the Dart 2.0L / 2.4L.

Note: the earliest versions of this lightweight aluminum flywheel were polished aluminum and silver in color. The new versions of flywheels are now powdercoated in black. The last photo we show on this page is of the older version Clutchmasters lightweight flywheel compared to a stock OEM dual mass flywheel.

I hear lightweight aluminum flywheels can cause rough day to day driveability (persay in stop and go traffic)

How does this flywheel affect the day to day driving?
    1 Answer
    • Customer Service Rep

Lightweight flywheels make cars much more throttle sensitive. This means that your car will rev faster which isn't really what you want when chugging around in stop and go traffic. Its a trade off, you gain better acceleration, and more fun when going through the gears, but low speeds, and boring traffic driving are more bothersome.

This flywheel comes with bolts to secure the clutch to the flywheel. However, bolts from Flywheel to crankshaft are not provided so you either need to reuse your old bolts, or buy new ones from us.
  • Owen
Is this a dual mass flywheel like the stock component?
    1 Answer
    • Customer Service Rep

This is a single mass flywheel conversion designed to reduce weight substantially. You'll have greater acceleration, more fun driving, but more noise over the stock dual mass flywheel.
  • Felix
Does a lighter flywheel improve its durability? Or does it help the clutch last longer?
    1 Answer
    • Customer Service Rep

This is a performance part. Anyone looking to buy one should be looking to improve the performance of their Dart, and not trying to improve the life of their clutch. In fact, using a lightweight flywheel would likely accelerate wear on the clutch compared to a factory flywheel because of the increased acceleration of the engine compared to the wheel speed. With a big heavy OEM dual mass flywheel, acceleration is slow and steady, but with a lightweight flywheel you will have faster rpm increases and decreases depending on throttle.
