Whats the differance from a gates water pump to a Mopar OEM water pump?

  They are virtually identical. however, the Gates uses a aluminum water impeller and the Mopar uses a cast iron. It shouldnt make a difference which one you use, however we can say we have had better quality with the OEM pump.

Is this an open or closed impeller design? The photo for the Mopar pump show a closed impeller design, and I know that Gates sells both types. Without a Gates model number or a photo of the back of the pump it's not possible to tell so I would like to explicitly know if it is indeed the closed impeller design.

  This particular pump has a open impeller design as of 4/16/18. HOWEVER, both Gates, AND Mopar have swapped between open and closed impeller designs multiple times in the past, showing that both manufacturers don't think open vs closed impeller design is that critical.
