(The photo shown on this page was what our instrument cluster looked like!!

We then checked the engine codes and saw a total of 6 different check engine lights with codes U1504 and U0428, related to steering angle sensor.

At first we thought there was a steering angle sensor failure of some sort, but after looking more into this, if your Dodge Hornet battery is disconnected for more than a few minutes, you will need to do a steering wheel recalibration since this car has electric power steering.

This is the recalibration procedure:

1) Reattach battery cable if its still disconnected.

2) Start car, turn steering all the way to the left and then to the right a few times. You'll feel the steering wheel nudge back a little when at full turn.

3) Turn car off.

4) Press start button (But do not put foot on the brake to start engine). Push the throttle pedal slowly all the way to full throttle and back three times. This is also the oil life reset method.

5) Turn ignition off

6) Then start the engine.

Thats it! Our car has the 2.0 turbo engine coupled with an all wheel drive system. We are aiming to bring out a lot of exciting performance/handling parts for the Hornet.

We have bought a Dragy GPS Performance Meter that we are using with our phone to test the 0-30, 0-60 and quarter mile times. The Dragy interfaces with multiple satellites to log altitude, and performance statistics.

We have found that the lowest possible 0-60 time can be had when you brake boosting to about 2000 rpm from a complete stop, with the AC off, Sport mode on and then launch.

Here is a quick summary of a bunch of runs.

0-60mph

7.2 seconds - bone stock, rolling out with no brake boosting, stock wheels, AC on. Release the brake, smash the gas.6.80 - 6.85 seconds - this is rolling out from a stop with sport mode on, and with AC on. Release the brake, smash the gas.6.27 - 6.35 seconds - this is brake boosting to 2000 rpms, AC off, sport mode on, and with stock wheels.6.01 - 6.11 seconds - this is brake boosting to 2000 rpms, AC off, sport mode on, and with our new lighter wheels.

5.99-6.10 - We hit a new record! Same as above but with our high flow air intake filter.5.87-5.95 Same air intake filter as above, but now with our prototype air intake kit. It should be noted that we are getting noticeable wheel spin (With traction control on!!)

Now, we want to take a moment to explain more about our lighter wheel/rotor setup. The factory 18 inch wheels weigh 27.50lbs. That is VERY heavy, and wheels/tires/rotors have an immediate impact on a cars throttle response!

Our new Enkei M52 wheels are 21.40 lbs per corner, or 6.10 lbs per corner lighter. That is substantial. Also, we put on drilled and slotted rotors, the front OEM rotors weighed 22lbs and 11 ounches each. Our drilled and slotted rotors are 21lbs and 11 ounces each or about one pound lighter per corner. The rear rotors weighed 10 lbs 5 ounces, the drilled and slotted aftermarket wheels were 10lbs and 3 ounces, for a 2 ounce savings per corner. Altogether this saved about 27 lbs of rotating mass.

Reducing rotating mass allows our Hornet to accelerate more easily, and have improved throttle response. You can see in our 0-60 times that it saved about .20 to .30 seconds off of our 0-60mph.

So, the morale of the story here is, that rotating mass is very important to a cars acceleration, and keep it in mind if you are ever buying new wheels for your Dodge Hornet.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0688/2902/0238/files/2795_10373_popup_a6cecb46-1ba3-4e0b-a846-f691f0258441.jpg?v=1767581645
//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0688/2902/0238/collections/imgi_3_category_1543_6138-9521958.jpg?v=1767369361
