Modern Performance has designed this kit for customers who own a 95-05 Neon and want something better than stock, or want to freshen their engine up for many more miles of trouble free driving.

We offer a choice of 8.9/8.5:1 (0.020 overbore only), 10.5:1, or 12.0:1 compression pistons, in both standard size or 0.020 overbore.

All of the components in this kit are high quality, and we use nothing but Mopar OEM (or equivalent) bearings, gaskets and seals.

With this kit, you will not only save money, but you'll also save time from having to buy components from many different places. One kit from Modern Performance is all you need!

Power capacity of this kit with the eagle rods is 430 HP. If you need additional power capacity, we recommend the Crower rods 550+ HP (sold separately).

  • Choice of JE Pistons & Rings
  • Eagle Forged Connecting Rods
  • Mopar Rod Bearings & Clevite Main Bearings
  • Mopar Oil Pan Gasket
  • Mopar Rear Main Seal
  • Melling Oil Pump

Note: Mopar has discontinued the bearings for the 1995 engine block. As a work around, we provide 96-99 bearings for your 1995 engine. There is a simple fix to make the 96-99 Neon bearings work with the 95 Neon. Cut a notch in the bedplate of your 1995 Neon engine to accommodate the notch in the 96-99 style bearing.

Note: We get people asking us all the time if they can make changes to this kit, ie, drop this item, swap this item out for this item, etc. The short answer is, yes we can do it, but our website listing cannot be modified for every crazy combination of items you want to customize. Say for example you do not want the Eagle Rods but instead want Crower rods. Look at the price difference between the two items in our cart, and that is roughly what youd pay extra to get the Crower rods instead of Eagle with this kit. If you do not want an item, say the Mopar Oil pump, then figure this kit would be whatever the price of the oil pump is, less in price. If you want to make changes, there is no need to email or call us beforehand, just place the order with the standard kit the way you want it, and then call us right after you place the order and ask us to modify the order in the cart. Thanks.

If I get this kit with 8.5.1 how much hp would it add I have some Hondas I need to beat and is their anything else I would need to make it run the right way if I did get this kit

8.5:1 pistons are a lower compression piston designed for turbo use, stock compression is 9.8:1.

If you are not going to turbocharge your Neon, then you'd want higher compression, or 10.5:1 pistons. You'd also want to make sure you have all other supporting mods: air intake, header, exhaust, etc. You may need larger injectors but you wont know until you put your car on a dyno to check power levels, and air/fuel mixture ratios.

would you have to rebalance the crank with the 10.5:1 pistons?
    1 Answer
    • Customer Service Rep

All items in the engine are already factory balanced. All pistons and rods we offer are factory balanced. You could do further refining to get the weight closer to each other, but its really not necessary.

If you have a 2.0 engine, then yes, this would be the kit you would want to use to beef up your engine with forged internals.

I notice these kits only go up to .020 over. My engine shop is currently telling me my block would need to go to .030 over. I thought I remembered you guys offering .040 over options, but don't see them. Any suggestions?

We have no problem making larger piston sizes, and have gone all the way up to a .040 overbore size. Please contact us by phone to discuss further.

I currently have a 2.o sohc engine that i am putting a 2.4 dohc head on. Do i need to select my engine option as sohc or dohc?
    1 Answer
    • customer service rep

The 2.4 head from 95-01 Chryslers are the same as the 95-99 Neon 2.0 Dohc. So, choose Dohc with your rebuild kit.

Can the 12.0:1 pistons be run with 93 octane gas?
    1 Answer
    • Customer Service Rep

No, the 12.0:1 pistons are designed to be used in a race application, and only with race fuel. The 10.5:1 pistons on the other hand work great with 93 octane.

Im planing on buying this kit to complete my build, are the friction coatings needed or is it just an option?
    1 Answer
    • Customer Service Rep

Bearing coatings are not necessary, but are nice to have to reduce rotational friction to gain power back, and to provide extra protection to the bearings and crankshaft.
  • Dominic
How much boost can this kit reasonably hold? Planning to put this engine into a pre-runner ranger that I might DD sometimes and want to know that it'll do well on a Daily 8psi tune and still be able to boogie around 20 for shenanigans.
    1 Answer
    • Customer Service Rep

There is no way to accurately answer your question because the state of your tune dictates how long it will last or what the engine can put up with. But, if you have a good tune that is not running too rich or lean you should be fine with upwards of 25 psi.
