Model Number: 221117

Introducing the new Version 3 MPx Underdrive Pulley for the 95-99 Neon. This pulley, is yet another redesign of the famous MPx pulley that has been out for the 95-99 Neon since 2001.

We've been able to reduce the weight even further over past generations. This current generation of pulley is 73% lighter than the factory crankshaft pulley!.

If you are modifying your first gen Neon for more power, and fun, this is one of the items we HIGHLY recommend.

This underdrive pulley creates more power over the stock pulley by reducing overall weight, and reducing the size of the crank pulley which underdrives the power steering, and AC system. This allows your car to rev faster, and overall be much more peppy. We have seen dyno charts that show a 5-6 horsepower gain by installing a underdrive pulley. Its important to note, that since we have been selling this part since the early 2000's, we have never noticed any difference in the charging, AC or power steering systems. The engine accessories continue to function fine.

  • Factory pulley weight - 5.9 lbs
  • MPx pulley weight - 1.6 lbs
  • We provide installation instructions, and this pulley is sold with or without belts. If you have a street driven car, we highly recommend you buy the kit with belts. If you have a race car and want to just run an alternator belt, or no belts, then you have the option in the pull down menu to buy this pulley without belts.

Circle track Neon racers! Since most of you guys are not running AC or Power Steering you can buy this pulley without belts, and use the belt numbers below to get a alternator belt to just drive your alternator only.

If you bought a MPx pulley years ago and you need new belts, here are the belt size part numbers:

  • For Power steering and AC: (Dayco Belt # 15460)
  • For Alternator (Dayco belt # 5040320)
  • For Power steering only, NO AC, use Dayco belt 15380.

is this compatible with my 420a 99 eclipse?

This pulley was designed for the 1995-1999 Neon with 2.0 engine. This pulley is not the best choice for the non turbo Eclipse due to it having a V belt for the power steering and AC. The power steering and AC on the non turbo Eclipse is a serpentine belt, and therefore, we recommend you look at the pulley we offer for the 00-05 Neon which is part number 221118 (use search bar). That pulley will work great on your engine but you may need to source new belts. This pulley will also fit on the 2.4 engine that Neon owners frequently swap in from the 95-01 Stratus/Breeze/Caravan as long as Neon power steering/ac is used.

Is this ok to use on a daily driven car

Definitely. We have been running this pulley on first gen Neons now since 1999/2000 with great success. The AC still works great, alternator output works fine, no problems at all.

What belt would i need if i have a/c and power steering deleted? Any way to buy just the pulley without the extra belts?

We have no idea, have never run that combination. We don't think that's a good idea, because the power steering is what tensions the belt. If you don't have power steering, there is no way to tension the belt. You could do this, but you'd need a tight belt, and if you don't get the right size, and or once the belt wears, there will be no way to tension the belt. If you want to buy the pulley by itself, or skip certain belts its best to call us by phone.

All generations of MPx pulley are the same size, and use the same belts. We have listed the belt numbers for the pulley in the main body of the text.

If you are not running any accessories, including an alternator, do you even need a crankshaft pulley?

Excellent question. If saving weight off the crankshaft improves the performance, why even run a crank pulley!? Well, the answer is quite simple. The crank pulley serves two purposes 1) drive the alternator and accessories, and 2) It keeps the timing belt sprocket in place. If you have no crank pulley, its possible for the timing belt sprocket to move, then the timing belt moves, then your valves lose timing and crash into the pistons. Its worth it to just put this 1.6 lb pulley on the crank with no accessories and not have to worry about the timing belt sprocket moving.

Will this fit the 2.4L N/A from 2000 Stratus?

The 2.4 NA engine from the 1995-2000 Stratus is a common engine swap into the 95-99 Neon. Yes, this pulley works great on the 2.4, for those of you guys that are going to be keeping the factory 95-99 Neon accessories.

Now, if you have a 2000 Stratus and the engine is not for a swap, then you should look at the 00-05 Neon pulley, because the 00 Stratus uses a serpentine belt, whereas the 95-99 Neon uses a V belt and serpentine belt.
